Our first development project by Ironside Designer Homes. We decided to take on this small renovation development to better appreciate and understand the challenges faced when taking on a construction project. This allowed us to learn how to improve design methods for construction practicality, how to guide and manage trades and to experience the complete construction process from design to completion that a lot of our clients experience on a daily basis.

Nestled on a quaint suburban Brisbane street, a forgotten relic from the 1970s awaited a new lease on life. This weatherboard house, with its faded facade and outdated interior, was about to undergo a remarkable transformation. The vision: to breathe new life into this time-worn structure, turning it into a modern, inviting home for the 21st century.

The project began with a complete exterior overhaul. The rotted weatherboard cladding was replaced with sleek, low-maintenance James Hardie sheeting, giving the house a fresh, contemporary look. A skillful blend of neutral colours and natural textures transformed the once-dated façade into a welcoming modern exterior.

The heart of the home, the kitchen, was redesigned for both functionality and style. High-end appliances, sleek cabinetry, and a white stone countertop exude modern elegance. The bathrooms were similarly updated, featuring subway tiles, timber cabinetry, contemporary fixtures, and luxurious finishes.

Sustainability was a priority in this renovation. The outdated heating and cooling system was replaced with energy-efficient HVAC, LED lighting fixtures, and insulation installed to the external walls & ceilings, reducing the home's carbon footprint and energy bills.

The backyard was transformed into an outdoor oasis, complete with a deck for entertaining, a lush garden, and a massive turfed yard. This space now offers the perfect balance between relaxation and entertainment, ideal for family gatherings and summer soirées.

The finishing touches included sanding & staining the existing timber flooring throughout, a fresh coat of paint, and modern fixtures and fittings. Every element was carefully chosen to complement the contemporary aesthetic while maintaining the functionality of a family home.

The once-aging 1970s weatherboard home has been reborn as a stunning modern residence. Its transformation is not just a renovation; it's a testament to the power of vision, design, and skilled craftsmanship. Now, it stands as a testament to the potential of revitalising even the most run-down structures into homes that embrace the future.
